Launch of the SEVillage at Def Con 27 Signups

It’s been about 6 months since Def Con 26. Yes, only 6 months. But here we are, it’s 2019, and we are ready for a new round of Def Con prep! The SEVillage is entering its 10th (10th!!) year at Def Con and, we are prepared to make this more amazing than previous years have been. With over 9,000 square feet, we are going to be occupying the third floor of Ballys, in the Las Vegas Ballroom this year at Def Con 27! 

However, the SEVillage is nothing without all the people who come and make it such a fun place. And especially those, who sign up to speak and participate in our events. So, with that, we are happy to say that signs ups for the SEVillage are all officially open!  

Call For Papers

The SEVillage has been the home of social engineering talks for the past 5 years. The topics have ranged from interrogation techniques, hunting predators SE style, reciprocity, and so much more. We have had tools released and breakthrough research discussed. In these few short years it, has become the place for the human hacking speeches.  

Are you interested in signing up to speak in the SEVillage? We have a CFP that is live and waiting for your submission! In the interest of allowing for more to attend the speeches (without it cutting into their evening plans) we, have decided this year to limit all talks to 25 mins. When making your submission, please make sure that your talk has been tailored to that time limit.

SECTF

The Social Engineering Capture the Flag (SECTF) has been the flagship event for the SEVillage since the beginning of its time. Year after year we, have watched our contestants enter the booth and rock their social engineering skills. This event garners a lot of attention year after year, and is documented by numerous news outlets.  

Every year we, have those ask us, “what can I do to get selected to compete in the SECTF?” Our biggest piece of advice is to make sure you submit a video! There are hundreds who submit to compete in the SECTF each year and, the only thing that gives us a glimpse into who you are is your video. So, make it entertaining, make it fun, make it unique and original! Let us see who you are and why you should be in the booth.  But remember, follow the rules! Keep in mind we only have 14 slots to fill. If we haven’t picked you to compete in the past, please don’t be discouraged. We encourage you to submit again this year!  

IMPORTANT NOTE: In the past we have always held the SECTF on Friday and Saturday during Def Con. Over the years we, have received several concerns over the fact that it is harder to reach companies on Saturday. After some team discussion we, have decided to move the SECTF competition to Thursday and Friday. Please keep this in mind if you are going to submit to compete in the SECTF make sure your travel arrangements allow for you to be present on August 8th and 9th.

Signups accepted until: June 1, 2019.  

Videos MUST be submitted by June 15, 2019.  

SECTF4Kids and SECTF4Teens

It wouldn’t be the SEVillage at Def Con without the SECTF4Kids and Teens! We’re so excited to be bringing these competitions back. Every year the, young minds at Def Con prove that there is nothing you can put before them that they cannot figure out. We are planning on bringing a fun new theme this year that will challenge the kids and teens! If you are interested in signing your child up, then head on over the sign-up pages!

We are so excited for our 10th anniversary at Def Con! We have watched the SEVillage grow from a small closet, size room, that only held the SECTF, to a fully functioning village. We hope that all of you can attend and join in on the fun.
