Prepare your family as it’s just about that time for SEORG and the SEVillage at DEF CON to start accepting registrants for the #SECTF4Kids competition to be held Saturday, August 8th at DEF CON 23. Last year’s competition kept the kids and their parents busy almost the whole day. We can’t tell you how rewarding it was to have the kids work so diligently to finish all the activities and puzzles. Even though a winning team had already finished, other teams were having so much fun that they pushed on in order to complete the competition. It made the hours and hours (and hours!) we put into designing the thing worth it!
This year’s theme is An Amazing Race from one country (okay, one section of DEF CON) to another while teams complete activities, puzzles and ciphers to see who will be the first to cross the finish line for an amazing prize. We have also added some new logic puzzles and more social interaction (safely monitored by the parental units) to encourage the kids to explore the world of social engineering. As always, the event is geared toward teaching kids skills in critical thinking, team-work, perseverance and creative problem-solving. We are excited about the new location for DEF CON this year and boy, do we intend to use it to its fullest! We have a couple of exciting twists this year including a creative and fun task which will help raise awareness (and maybe even funds) for Hackers4charity and yes, the nerf guns will be making an appearance.
In order to help decide if the SECTF4Kids is something the kids (and let’s face it, the parents too) would enjoy doing, we have come up with a set of guidelines which outline proficiency levels recommended for maximum quality of amusement and pleasure for all. Head on over and REGISTER NOW if you want to get in fast.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We will again be helping parents and kids who sign up get their DEF CON Passes, after registration details will be sent.
Hope to see you there!
